In this lesson, we’ll briefly talk about the layout options on a Notion page. We’ve already mentioned the Page Width setting before, but there are a few extra things we can do to expand the layout on an Notion page.

Since Blocks can be easily reassembled, we can build the layout of a Notion page with just drag and drop. Let’s try selecting a single block by hovering over to the left of it and selecting the six dots icon. As you move that block around with your mouse, (don’t drop it), Try hovering it right above a different block, or right below. You’ll see a little blue horizontal line that is basically telling you: if you drop your currently selected block now, it will go right above (or below) this block that the line is appearing next to.

You can do the same with a bunch of blocks selected at once. Simply hover over until the blue line appears, and then drop them and they’ll be moved to your desired location. This is the easiest way to rearrange the layout of your existing Notion page.

Now, another important concept is columns. Notion pages are vertical — we start writing at the to, and then we continue writing at the bottom. There is no length limit to a Notion page. That being said, we can also create some horizontal layout.
You can try creating a two-column layout by dragging your block, not to the top of a different block, but to the left or right to it, and the same blue line should appear. As soon as you drop the block, when a vertical blue line will appear, you’ll get two columns — two blocks side by side.
We can also add many more than just 2 columns. Other than dragging, we can also use the slash menu to “spawn” a bunch of columns. Try typing “/columns4” in Notion. This will create four empty blocks laid out next to each other side by side in a four column layout.
Columns are not infinite. Your cursor will stay in the column until you manually drag the last block from said column below the columns themselves. Then, the same blue horizontal line will appear at the full width of the page. Drop it there and that way you can get out of editing columns.

There’s technically no limit to the amount of columns you can have on an Notion page, but we strongly recommend not adding more than 5 next to each other.

While Notion pages may be a little bit less flexible with their layouts compared to Word documents, due to their Block-based editor, rearranging the layout of a Notion page is really easy because we can just drag and drop things all over.
Now, it’s time to talk about moving pages in Notion.
