Creating New Pages

Welcome to our third module, all about Notion pages. In this lesson, we’ll cover creating new pages. Essential stuff, yes. But, with how flexible Notion is, there are quite a few ways of creating new pages, and so, we’d like to go through them all in this lesson.

First up, there is the Cmd (Mac) // Ctrl (Windows) + N shortcut, that works anytime you have the Notion desktop app open. It won’t work in your browser, only the desktop app. (I do recommend downloading the desktop app. You can get it from here → notion.so/desktop).

This is a great way of quickly adding a page quickly. Any page created this way will be added to the bottom of the Private section in your sidebar. So, it’s best to move it, so that it won’t get lost. After you find it on your Sidebar, just drag it into a top-level page that you think it might fit under. (We’ll also talk a lot more about moving soon).

You can also achieve this same result by clicking the New page button at the top right of your Notion workspace, right next your Workspace name:

What’s great about Notion is that we can quickly create pages in other pages. We already talked about this, but to expound a little bit — you can type /page anywhere in the Notion editor window, and it will create a page within the page you have currently open. This is great for creating structure and organizing your pages within context.

We’ll, of course, talk a lot more about structure in this course. Just wanted to remind you of this great shortcut! Something I use absolutely every day.

Another great way to add pages is via the Sidebar. As explained in our previous lesson, while hovering over any page on your Sidebar, you’ll see a little “+” icon. Clicking that will create a sub-page nested under the Page you’re clicking the button on. Essentially, same result as typing /page in the body of that page.

There are a few more hidden ways of creating pages, but we’ll dive into them later in this course! For now, you should have a good understanding of the most common ways. Now, feel free to create as many pages as you need!
